How to Do Geofencing

September 19, 2022

geofencing

Hello, readers! I am Christopher Seminatore, the Managing Partner at Get Geofencing. As a geofencing expert, I get a lot of queries from our clients and people in general. These queries are like –

  • What is geofencing?
  • How can it benefit my business?
  • Can it help me to attract more traffic? And likewise!

Therefore, I realize many business owners are unaware of the geofencing concept. They are yet to discover the benefits of geofencing in their business.

Subsequently, I got the idea of penning this blog in a Q&A format. If you give it a read, you can understand the geofencing concept and process.

Let’s start with the basics.

What is a geofence?

Generally, a geofence is a digital perimeter around a physical location. It can be a set of spatial boundaries or a radius around a specific point.

What is geofencing?

Geofencing is the act of using geofence for multiple purposes. For example, it can be used for monitoring devices, marketing, and sending ads to the target audience, etc. (the last two are what we do).

What is geofencing marketing?

Geofencing marketing uses location-targeting to create geofences, connect with specific audiences, and engage them. Significantly, it benefits businesses trying to increase brand visibility online and offline. So, if you want to attain better business results, geofencing marketing can be a good option.

Besides, you can read our blog, the ultimate guide on geofencing marketing here.

How to do geofencing marketing?

  1. Initiate your geofencing marketing campaign by determining the addresses or areas to target.
  2. Next, target places where your audience frequently visit, commonly known as target zones.
  3. Then, you determine your conversion zone, i.e., the physical location of your business.
  4. Once you determine your target zones, you can set up the geofence.
  5. After that, you can collect data from the mobile devices crossing the virtual perimeter.
  6. So, you can get a consumer insight from the locational data.
  7. Using the data, you can specify your target audience and then create personalized ads.
  8. When a mobile device enters the geofence, you have about 30 days.
  9. During this period, you can send ads to the target audience across websites, apps, etc.
  10. These ads encourage the audience to visit your brick-and-mortar address and take action.

Therefore, geofencing marketing helps you generate quality leads while increasing brand awareness and conversions. Check out this blog to know more about the process of geofence marketing.

What are your potential target zones?

You can generate traction by geofencing the following places:

  • Trade shows
  • Sporting events
  • Competitor addresses
  • Conventions
  • Music festivals
  • Office buildings
  • Parks
  • Malls
  • Community centres
  • Hotels
  • Airports

However, these locations depend on the offerings and target demography of the business.

What are the benefits of geofencing marketing?

Though geofencing marketing is challenging, it brings numerous benefits to a business.

  • Increases brand awareness
  • Attracts new customers
  • Invoke loyalty from existing customers
  • Qualified lead generation
  • Faster conversions
  • Cost-effective marketing
  • Higher ROI on ad spend
  • Efficient data collection on customer insight
  • Competitive edge over others
  • Increase in local foot traffic and sales
  • Improvement in customer engagement
